Welcome to Elysium Reflexology

Reflexologist in Chigwell, Essex

Hi, I’m Carmel, a fully qualified and insured Reflexologist based in Chigwell, Essex. I work from a private treatment room that’s easily accessible by public transport, with free on-street parking, and I also offer mobile treatments in Woodford, Buckhurst Hill, Loughton, Ongar, and Chingford.

I come from a background in clinical research and hold a BSc Hons in Biology, which sparked my lifelong interest in health and wellness. My journey with holistic therapies began in my twenties when I discovered reflexology, and I later relied on regular treatments while expanding my family. Experiencing the benefits firsthand inspired me to become a reflexologist myself.

I trained at the London School of Reflexology with Louise Keet, achieving distinction in my Level 3 qualification. Since then, I’ve completed additional training in fertility & pregnancy reflexology, facial reflexology (Bergman method), Zone Facelift, and advanced hand reflexology. I’m a proud full member of the Association of Reflexologists and the CNHC. I have also trained in Usui Reiki levels 1, 2 and Master.

I love helping clients restore a sense of calm and balance. Whether you’re looking to reduce stress, support general wellbeing, or simply enjoy some time for yourself, my goal is to help you feel relaxed, revitalised, and energised through tailored, intuitive reflexology treatments.

What is Reflexology?

Reflexology is a technique of applying gentle pressure to certain points on the feet (or hands or face) to:

  • Bring about a deep state of relaxation.
  • Stimulate the body’s own healing processes.
  • Help a person return to a state of balance and well-being.

These points stimulated are called “reflexes” and they correspond to various parts, organs, glands and systems of the body. It's like the body is “mapped” on to the feet (or hands or face).

The holistic approach...

The word holistic is derived from her Greek word holos meaning whole. Holistic therapies such as reflexology are based on the idea that health is the result of balance between mind, body and spirit.

Reflexology aims to treat the individual as a whole, creating a state of harmony in both body and mind. It has the benefit of also being a deeply relaxing therapy, and during periods of relaxation the body takes the opportunity to heal, restore and energise itself.

Reflexology does not diagnose or cure, but it treats the person as a whole, rather than a specific illness or condition.

How does Reflexology work?

Reflexology works on the principle that certain points on the feet (and hands or face) are connected to organs and systems in the body. Stimulating these reflexes encourages blood flow, unblocks energy pathways and helps to restore balance to the body.

There are over 7,000 nerve endings in each foot and stimulation of these encourages energy to flow, allowing healing to take place and bringing the body, mind and spirit back into balance.

Restorative

Rejuvenate your body and mind with reflexology. Gentle pressure on key points of your feet and hands helps release tension, support natural healing, and restore your energy, leaving you feeling refreshed, revitalized and renewed.

Balancing

Restore harmony within your body through reflexology. By stimulating reflex points linked to your organs and systems, this therapy encourages alignment, promotes balance and helps you feel grounded, centred and in tune from head to toe.

Therapeutic

A soothing, natural therapy for overall wellness. While not a cure, reflexology can be especially helpful in managing ongoing or recurring health issues that we may have come to accept as “normal”. By aiding the flow of energy, reflexology supports your body’s natural ability to heal, helping bring body, mind and spirit back into balance.

Some frequently asked questions...

What happens in a treatment?

Reflexology is performed on the feet (up to the ankles or calf muscle), or on the hands or feet if you are having that reflexology treatment - so the most you’ll have to do is take off your socks and roll up your trousers!

The session begins with a short consultation to review your medical history, lifestyle and any areas of concern. You’ll lie comfortably on a reclining Lafuma chair, supported by pillows and covered with a soft blanket to keep you warm.

Reflexology is performed on the feet (up to the ankles or calf

The treatment starts with gentle warm up movements over the feet followed by reflexology, with extra focus on the areas we discuss during your consultation. the session concludes with a review of findings and some lifestyle suggestions tailored to you.

Most people find reflexology deeply relaxing, leaving them feeling calm, balanced and refreshed.

Does reflexology tickle or hurt?

Reflexology is generally very relaxing. Some areas of the feet or hands might feel slightly sensitive, but it shouldn’t hurt. Most clients describe the sensations as firm but soothing, and the pressure is always adjusted to your comfort. Ticklish feet aren’t a problem—many people quickly relax and enjoy the treatment.

What should I wear to a treatment?

Wear comfortable clothing that’s easy to roll up, as reflexology is usually performed on the feet, lower legs, or hands. Just something that allows you to relax and stay comfortable during the session.

How often should I have reflexology

Many clients start with weekly or fortnightly sessions to address specific concerns or relieve stress – this helps the body begin the self-healing process. Once your body responds, sessions can be spaced out to once a month or as needed to maintain balance and wellbeing. This is discussed in your first treatment to help tailor a plan that’s right for you.

Can you diagnose my health problems?

Reflexologists cannot diagnose or cure medical conditions. During a treatment, we do get 'feedback’ on which parts of the body are functioning well and which may be under stress. If a reflex point shows a reaction, I'll discuss this with you at the end of the session, helping you to understand your body’s response and wellbeing.

What if I fall asleep during a session?

Falling asleep during reflexology is completely normal! Many clients find the session so relaxing that they drift off. It’s a sign that your body is letting go of tension and fully benefiting from the treatment. You’ll wake up feeling refreshed, calm, and balanced.
